Apparently Venting Doesn’t Reduce Anger
Instead, researchers say it's better to practice meditation, yoga and deep breathing.
If you though venting was good for your mental health…think again! Researchers from the Ohio State University analyzed more than 150 studies involving ten-thousand participants. tTey found that there is no scientific evidence to support the theory that ‘venting’ or ‘blowing off steam’ can help to reduce anger. Instead, researchers say it’s better to practice meditation, yoga and deep breathing to get yourself to calm down. This is because stress-relieving activities can help lower a person’s fight-or-flight response. There are also certain activities that researchers recommend staying away from when angry…like jogging, because it can increase a person’s agitation.
