Websites Of Several Alabama Government Agencies Disrupted After Cyberattack

A cyberattack resulted in “disruptions” for websites of several Alabama government agencies Wednesday.
The disruptions were widespread across state services, and those effects lessened throughout the day as officials worked to counter the “distributed denial-of-service attack.”
A group known as ‘Anonymous Sudan’ claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said it wanted to call attention “to the dire situation in Sudan,” but it wasn’t clear how targeting Alabama government websites served that purpose.
There was no reported breach of government networks or data stolen during the cyberattack. However, the incident is an example of how “hackers, a world away, can use basic techniques to send American state and local officials scrambling to defend their computer systems.”
