FDA Approves First Over-The-Counter Glucose Monitor

The device is meant for people 18 and older who don't use insulin and are treating diabetes with oral medications.

The FDA has approved the first over-the-counter glucose monitor.

Dexcom’s ‘Stelo Glucose Biosensor System’ is a wearable sensor that pairs with a smartphone to track blood sugar levels.

The sensor is worn on the back of the upper arm and an app will monitor, record and analyze glucose values with an update every 15 minutes. It can be used up to 15 days before the user needs to replace it.

The device is meant for people 18 and older who don’t use insulin and are treating diabetes with oral medications. It is also for adults who don’t have diabetes but want to track glucose levels.
