The Supreme Court has agreed to weigh in on whether Former President Trump can be criminally prosecuted for his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss.

The Republican candidate is facing criminal charges for his words that allegedly prompted people to storm the Capitol in attempt to overturn the election.

Trump claims he cannot be charged as he was under immunity as the president. Others argue he cannot claim immunity as president because at the time he was only a candidate not in the office position.

The high court will hear oral arguments during the week of April 22 with the landmark decision to be made by the end of June or sooner.

The justices’ order puts Trump’s January 6th criminal trial proceedings on hold, for now. If the court sides against Trump, it would allow the trial to move forward.
