Thursday Tips: Cleaning Hacks Using Food Items
From tea bags, to grapefruit and even white wine can help tackle cleaning.
A lot of household items can be used for cleaning and that’s exactly what we’re talking about in today’s Thursday Tips!
If your favorite pair of shoes has begun to stink…you can get rid of the odor with tea bags. You can use dry unused ones or the ones you’ve actually used to make tea and are about to toss in the garbage. For the dry, place about 3 in each shoe. Black tea is best but it can be any flavor. Leave them for 2 to 3 hours or overnight. For the wet tea bags, place one in each shoe, leave for an hour and then remove. Wipe away the moisture and then use a hair dryer to dry them out.
If you have children or grand-children who have gotten overzealous with their coloring, leading to crayon on the walls…all you need is mayonnaise. The condiment consists of oils that help break down the wax in crayons. Apply a small amount of mayo to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping away with a damp micro-fiber cloth.
This only helps if you enjoy red and white wine…if you spill a little red, use white to attack the stain right away. This is one of many tips for wine stains but no matter what method you choose, make sure to always blot the stain. Scrubbing will make things spread.
If you’re out of your favorite bathroom cleaner, grab a grapefruit and salt to tackle soap scum. Take half a grapefruit and pour a layer of salt over the top. Then rub the grapefruit on the affected areas. The citric acid and the coarseness of the salt work together to power through stubborn scum.
