CCU Requests $11 Million To Fund Pedestrian Walkway
CCU officials said they believe the walkway would help reduce the possibility of injury or death while students travel to and from campus.
Coastal Carolina University has requested $11 million in state funds to add a pedestrian walkway to campus.
The university asked for the funds from the House Ways and Means Committees’ Higher Education Subcommittee.
CCU officials argue there is a major safety concern for students walking from their housing complexes to campus across Highway 544.
Students are crossing four lanes of traffic to reach the university.
There is currently an intersection with pedestrian crossing, but students still cross at the congested portions of the road.
CCU officials said they believe the walkway would help reduce the possibility of injury or death while students travel to and from campus.
The Subcommittees’ decision is expected to be delivered in June.
