U.S. Re-Designates Houthis As A Specially Designated Global Terrorist Group
Officials said the SDGT designation is aimed at discouraging the Yemen-based militia group from continuing to attack vessels traveling through the Red Sea.
The Biden Administration re-designated the Houthis as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity Wednesday.
Officials said the SDGT designation is aimed at discouraging the Yemen-based militia group from continuing to attack vessels traveling through the Red Sea.
A U.S. senior administration official said, “These attacks are a clear example of terrorism and a violation of international law and a major threat to lives, global commerce, and they jeopardize the delivery of humanitarian assistance.”
The designation will take effect in 30 days. This is the latest series of U.S. actions targeting the Iranian-backed group and comes amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
