Costco Testing Scanners Upon Entry Into Stores
Costco said the test is to match members to their cards at the door prior to shopping for an improved member experience.
Costco is testing a new way to keep non-members out of their stores.
The retailer is now having greeters, at limited locations, scan customer’s cards at the entrance.
Costco said the test is to match members to their cards at the door prior to shopping for an improved member experience.
Before the scanner experiment, members only had to flash their membership card at store entrances. The card and a customer’s ID were then scanned at both regular and self-checkout.
Costco said scanning at the start would speed up the process of both entry and checkout.
If the testing goes well, the retail giant is expected to expand the process to locations nationwide.
