New Study Finds What Actually Causes Wrinkles
Researchers found that wrinkles are linked to the skin microbiome, which is the collection of microorganisms in our skin.
The older we get, the more aware we are of wrinkles…which prompts us to seek ways to fight aging, but new research can help us understand why they appear in the first place. Analysts from the University of California San Diego, together with L’oréal research, say that a bacteria that lives in the skin may be to blame. Researchers found that wrinkles are linked to the skin microbiome, which is the collection of microorganisms in our skin. The team analyzed the data of nearly seven hundred women ages 18 and 70 and found that the larger variety of germs on the skin, the more fine lines around the eyes. They also found that those with more diverse microbiomes were less likely to suffer water loss, which can make the skin look saggy and wrinkled in places other than the eyes.
