IRS To Start Accepting 2023 Tax Returns At The End Of January

If you would like to go ahead and file your taxes, you can do so starting on January 29. However, the official deadline has been set for April 15.

The IRS announced it will soon start accepting and processing 2023 federal income tax returns.

If you would like to go ahead and file your taxes, you can do so starting on January 29. However, the official deadline has been set for April 15.

If you are not able to file by mid-April, you must apply for an automatic six-month filing extension by the deadline so you can avoid being charged a late-filing penalty.

The IRS typically issues refunds within 21 days of accepting your return. The agency notes, however, that if you are claiming an earned income tax credit, the IRS cannot by law issue the EITC-related refund before mid-February and estimates that those funds will be available for filers starting February 27.
