Disrupted Sleep Can Lead to Memory Issues

A bad night's sleep can cost you tomorrow...and ten years from now.

A new study found that people with more interrupted sleep are more than twice as likely to have memory and thinking problems a decade later. Researchers started by tracking the sleep quality of a group of people in their thirties and forties. Then…they gave more than 500 of them cognitive tests ten years later. Low scores were correlated with those who experienced interrupted sleep during initial testing. Those most likely to sleep poorly were male, African American and had a history of depression and a high body mass index. The study was published in the medical journal “Neurology.”
