Lawsuit Brought Against New Texas Law Regarding Illegal Entry
The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas has brought a lawsuit against the bill claiming it is unconstitutional because it averts federal law as immigration is the federal government's decision.
A legal challenge has been brought against a new law that makes it a state crime to enter Texas illegally.
On Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed the ‘Senate Bill 4’ into law that allows any local law enforcement to arrest those who are suspected of entering the country illegally. After being detained, they will either agree to a judge’s order making them leave the U.S. or be charged with misdemeanor charges of illegal entry under the new law.
The White House said the law is “incredibly extreme” and does not make Texas communities safer.
