Colorado Supreme Court Deemed Trump Ineligible As Presidential Candidate
The 4-3 vote will be placed on hold until January 4th, pending the former president's appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Colorado Supreme Court historically deemed Donald Trump ineligible as a presidential candidate on Tuesday.
The state Supreme Court decision only applies to Colorado meaning the former president will be removed from the state’s 2024 ballot.
Officials ruled in favor stating Trump is not an eligible candidate due to the 14th amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.” The majority wrote, “Even when the siege on the Capitol was fully underway, he continued to support it by repeatedly demanding that Vice President Mike Pence refuse to perform his constitutional duty and by calling Senators to persuade them to stop the counting of electoral votes. These actions constituted overt, voluntary, and direct participation in the insurrection.”
The 4-3 vote will be placed on hold until January 4th, pending the former president’s appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
