FDA Says Recalled Applesauce Pouches Could Have Been Tainted On Purpose
A spokesperson shared, so far all of the signals the agency is getting, lead to an intentional act by someone in the supply chain and they're trying to sort it out.
Applesauce pouches that have sickened many children may have been contaminated on purpose.
The FDA recently placed a recall on cinnamon applesauce pouches sold under Weis, WanaBana and Schnucks. The pouches tested positive for high levels of lead.
All three of the brands are linked to a manufacturing facility in Ecuador. The FDA says it is conducting an inspection of that facility.

The FDA is continuing to investigate and no conclusions have been made at this time, but it currently believes it could have been ‘economically motivated”, including ingredients being altered in order to make products appear higher in value, often so companies can produce a cheaper item and sell it at an elevated price.
