Loud Boom Heard Across Georgetown And Horry Counties

An official with Shaw Air Force Base confirmed that the noise was related to training operations that are going on this week at the South Carolina Electronic Warfare Range.

Early Wednesday morning, residents in Horry and Georgetown Counties reported hearing a loud boom.

Witnesses shared that sound was heard around 3a.m..

Nearly 12 F-16 fighting falcons have been participating in several training operations between midnight and 8a.m. and will continue to do so until Friday.

Community members are urged not to be alarmed as they may notice an increase in military aircraft noises during this time, such as the boom some heard Wednesday morning.
