CPSC Issues Warnings For Magnetic Balls In Toy Sets

The magnets have been deemed small enough to swallow, posing several risks including choking.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued warnings on high-powered magnetic ball toy sets.

The magnets have been deemed small enough to swallow, posing several risks including choking. So far, the CPSC has been made aware of seven deaths linked to swallowing the magnetic balls.

If swallowed, the high-powered magnets can attract each other or to other metals inside the digestive system, leading to “perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death.”

The list of total units affected has not been released due to the companies refusing to issue a recall on the products. However, if the companies do not agree to a voluntary recall, the CPSC could sue or start a mandatory recall process.

All of these magnets were sold online this year.
