Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has died.
Rosalynn and Former President Jimmy Carter were known to be the longest-lived presidential couple in American history. Back in May, the Carter family reported Rosalynn was living with Dementia and just last week they shared that she had entered hospice care.
The Carter Center said, “she died peacefully with family by her side.”
As first lady, she focused National attention on the performing arts. She invited to the White House leading classical artists from around the world, as well as traditional American artists. She also took a strong interest in programs to aid mental health, the community, and the elderly.
From 1977 to 1978, she served as the Honorary Chairperson of the president’s commission on mental health.
Ceremonies celebrating her life are set to take place next week.
