The field of Republican presidential candidates is shrinking. S.C. Senator Tim Scott has suspended his presidential campaign.
There were worries that Scott was not going to qualify for the fourth GOP primary debate set for next month, after he was the last candidate to meet the donor and polling thresholds to make last week’s debate.
By leaving the race now, people close to his campaign said, he can return to the Senate without an embarrassing finish in Iowa.
The announcement took many of Scott’s aides and donors by surprise.
