West Virginia Senator Manchin Announces Retirement

Democrats are aware the wins will not come easily and the future of their control in Congress is up in the air.

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin announced that he won’t be returning as a senator in 2025.

Manchin had previously suggested that he was leaving the Capitol though he was still wavering on the decision. Now, he has officially confirmed and it came sooner than most had expected.

Manchin’s retirement from his senator position means, Democrats will have to win seven competitive races in Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin to keep control of the Senate. All the states listed are known to be Republican-leaning or swing states.
