Aid Package Debate Is Ongoing Between The U.S. Senate And House

There’s an ongoing debate between the U.S. Senate and House in regards to aid packages.

On Sunday, the Senate said it will pass a bill that includes aid for both Israel and Ukraine despite the House recently passing a package only for Israel. House Republicans tied the solo Israel aid package to cuts to the IRS, which is a move that Democrats and the White House are opposed to.

President Biden vowed to veto this bill and Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer said he would not even bring it up for a vote.

The president asked Congress to approve a broader $106 billion emergency spending package including funding for Israel, Taiwan and Ukraine, as well as humanitarian aid. Schumer said the senate would consider a bipartisan bill addressing the broader priorities.

It could be weeks before Congress approves and emergency spending plan.
