CVS To Remove Products Containing Phenylephrine From Shelves

CVS is only taking products that contain 'phenylephrine as the only active ingredient' off the shelves.

CVS stores are removing certain oral cough and cold products due to a popular ingredient deemed ineffective.

Last month, a panel of advisers to the U.S. health regulator refused to back the effectiveness of oral over-the-counter medicines made with phenylephrine, which is used in cold and cough syrups.

The FDA has yet to remove phenylephrine from its list of ingredients for over-the-counter use and plans to seek public opinion before making a decision.

CVS is only taking products that contain ‘phenylephrine as the only active ingredient’ off the shelves. However, other oral cough and cold products will continue to be offered to meet consumer needs.

Other pharmacy chains said they will wait for further regulations from the FDA before making a decision to remove the products or not.
