Officials have received reports of citizens getting phone calls from individuals posing as a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The scammer uses the name “Sergeant Joseph Walker” and says he has an urgent personal matter to discuss then asks for you to call him back.
The sheriff’s office said this is a scam and they would not have their deputies call anyone to have a fine paid over the phone.
If you receive a phone call like this you are urged to refrain from giving out any information and hang up immediately.
