‘Coffee Badging’ is New Workplace Trend Among Hybrid Workers
Coffee badging is the new workplace trend where an employee comes to the office to grab a coffee, socialize with coworkers, and then leaves.
There’s a new workplace trend that is popular with those who dread going into the office everyday. The average workplace is not the same as it was a couple of years ago. A poll found that nearly 30% of work places have hybrid schedules (working both from home and the office). As some companies are implementing stricter in-office requirements, employees are apparently finding ways of working around mandatory office hours. And a new term has emerge as a result. Coffee badging is the new workplace trend where an employee comes to the office to grab a coffee, socialize with coworkers, and leaves. It’s a metaphorical badge for showing face. And it also relates to the way some companies track office attendance through an employee’s badge swipe. Coffee badging basically boils down to employees showing for their mandated swipe but without doing much work at the physical office. This doesn’t mean the employees are slacking off. Quite the opposite. Some say the commute for the swipe makes their working day longer as they get more done at their home office.
