Jailed Iranian Activist Honored With The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize

The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to a jailed Iranian activist.
Narges Mohammadi was honored with the prize for ‘her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all’.
Mohammadi has campaigned for women’s rights and for the abolition of the death penalty for a long time now and it has come at a huge personal cost. She has been sentenced to over 30 years in jail and has been banned from seeing her family. The vocal activist is detained at Iran’s notorious Evin Prison.
The Nobel committee said it hoped Iran would release Mohammadi so she could attend the prize ceremony in December. She is only the 19th woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in over 120 years of its running.
