Now’s a great time to give your garden, hanging baskets and other plants a refresh. There are plenty of flowers that thrive when the whether cools off and that need less sunlight. Pansies are a great addition as they and their relatives, violets and violas, don’t thrive in the heat. In the south, they can last well into winter. petunias also do well in the cold but be sure to bring them in during a real cold snap to prolong their growing season. Snapdragons are another cool weather loving floral but be sure to plant them in full sunlight and water them extra before a freeze. Cosmos flowers are a great options as well. They come in a variety of colors including crimson, pink, chocolate brown, yellow, orange, and gold…and a bonus, they attract pollinators. Of course, we can’t forget mums. These fall staples like regular watering and full sun. but be sure to pull away dead blooms to keep them looking good.
