It’s All About Baking Soda in Our Thursday Tips!
From dishes to hair brushes...baking soda is great for cleaning and also for cooking!
For your Thursday Tips…
1: Add a teensy bit of baking soda to make your ground hamburger meat juicier. Animal proteins, when heated, bond together which causes it be tough, and lose flavor. Adding a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to a pound of ground beef raises the PH, making it difficult for the proteins to bond. To do this…mix it with water and mix it in with your meat, then allow to rest for about 10 minutes before cooking it. But, don’t add too much or it can mess with the taste.
2: Baking soda is good for cleaning too. Things like your stained coffee mugs. It’s a deodorizer and gives a mild abrasion which makes it great for getting out stains on your stainless steel cups and removing any lingering smells. The YouTube page Clean My Space demonstrates. Fill the mug half way with hot water, add a tablespoon of baking soda, and fill the remainder with hot water and let it sit overnight. The next morning, give it a good rub and rinse and you’re good to go!
3: How about those gross hair brushes. It works nicely on the hard plastic ones. Fill a bowl with 2 cups of warm water, add two tablespoons of baking soda and if you have it a little tea tree essential oil. Then pick out all the hair and let it soak. Get a tooth brush and start brushing remove all the residue from the bristles, get into the grooves and sides. Let it air dry.
4: Fill the sink with warm water, add your dish soap and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Put your dishes in and then let them soak…even your non stick pans. Baking soda is gentle enough to not hurt the surfaces. Just don’t use scrubbing pads. Now…go relax and when you return the dishes are practically done for you. Use a dish cloth and you’ll see everything comes off a lot easier… and it removes any lingering smells as well.
