Family Of Deceased Man Files Lawsuit Against Google Maps

The app allegedly directed a driver to cross a bridge that had collapsed nine years prior and was never repaired.

The family of a North Carolina man is suing Google Maps for negligence.

Phillip Paxson, a medical device salesman and father of two, drowned on September 30th of 2022 after his vehicle plunged into a creek. He was following Google Maps after leaving his daughter’s ninth birthday party when the app allegedly directed him to cross a bridge that had collapsed nine years prior and was never repaired.

There were no barriers or warning signs along the washed-out road-way and he drove off an unguarded edge leading him to crash around 20-feet below.

Evidence that backs the lawsuit reveals many people, years before Paxson’s death, had urged the app to update its route due to the road no longer being there.
