Idaho Murder Suspect Appeared In Court For Camera Allowance Debate
Both the defense and prosecution requested to restrict cameras as the case of the brutal killings of four University of Idaho students continues to attract national attention.
On Wednesday, Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger was back in court where a judge heard arguments on whether to allow cameras in the courtroom or not.
Both the defense and prosecution requested to restrict cameras as the case of the brutal killings of four University of Idaho students continues to attract national attention.
The defense claimed the media coverage violated Kohberger’s constitutional rights and said if cameras are allowed, they should be dismissed during ‘sensitive testimony’.
Judge John Judge said other trials that have allowed camera access ‘spun out of control’ in his opinion and he is concerned about the spread of misinformation if cameras are allowed in the court room.
The media coalition argued the way to battle misinformation is to provide accurate information which is shared during the trial.
An official decision has not been made yet as debates continue. Kohberger is set to be back in court on September 22nd when the judge will hear the defense’s argument regarding their motion to dismiss the charges against the 28-year-old.
