Why Are Modern Coffee Tables So Low to the Ground?

Has anyone else noticed how low coffee tables are these days?

Has anyone else noticed how low coffee tables are these days?  If you’ve been home shopping lately, you may have noticed the coffee tables are getting lower and lower to the ground.  They call it the new modern.  But the style has a long history and purpose originating in England during the Renaissance.  The design is rooted in its function and ambiance.  The low profile invites you to gather around and engage in conversation, to relax and rest your beverage and laptop.  Also, the table doesn’t obstruct your view across the room.  And the table doesn’t lend to clutter because these coffee tables don’t need complex decorations.   The tables stand alone and become the focal and gathering points of the room.
