Wildfires Burn Across Hawaii’s Big Island And Maui

Hawaii's lieutenant governor has called on the White House to declare a federal emergency.

Evacuations are currently underway as wildfires burn across Hawaii’s Big Island and Maui.

The Hawaii National Guard was activated to support emergency responders in the impacted communities where the blazes have damaged structures, prompted rescues and even pushed some to jump into the ocean to escape the danger.

The fires are being fueled by Hurricane Dora which is in the Pacific Ocean south of the state as its winds continue to fan the flames. The Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 130mph was around 740 miles southwest of Honolulu as of late Tuesday.
