Looking for More Than Love – Dating & The Housing Market

Higher mortgages and rent is putting pressure on couples to look for more than love in a partner.

The housing crisis, as some see it, is having a trickle down effect on dating.  A national newspaper headlines explains it as heading towards a Jane Austen-style marriage market.   With the price of mortgages and rent so high, it’s taking more than one income to make ends meet, putting pressure on couples to look for more than love but rather someone to help them pay the bills.  According to Realtor.com the median monthly mortgage payment is nearly $2,000.  That’s double from 2020.   The median rent is $2,029.   Most companies require your monthly income to be three times the rent.
