AP Psychology Classes Banned In The State Of Florida
The state has said districts are free to teach AP Psychology only if it excludes any mention of the essential topics. However, the College Board has refused to make the alterations.
On Thursday, Advanced Placement Psychology classes were officially banned in the state of Florida.
The Florida Department of Education banned the class by instructing Florida superintendents that teaching foundational content on sexual orientation and gender identity is illegal under state law.
The state has said districts are free to teach AP Psychology only if it excludes any mention of the essential topics. However, the College Board has refused to make the alterations.
The news means school districts must quickly alter many students’ class schedules just days before the start of a new semester.
This fall, nearly 30 thousand students were enrolled to take the course statewide.
