Americans Must Have ETIAS Approval To Visit Europe Starting In 2024

If you are approved, the authorization will last for three years. However, if your passport expires within those three years, you will have to apply again.

Starting next year, traveling to the European Union will require an extra step.

Americans will need one additional document if they seek to enter European countries. To visit, you will have to apply for approval under the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS).

You must apply online, and the authorization that will be linked to your passport, will allow for short-term stays up to 90 days in a 180 day-period.

Applications will cost $8 and most applications are expected to be processed in minutes, but it could be up to 4 days after you submit your application. Some applicants may be asked for additional information which could extend approval up to 30 days.
