DOT Announced Accessible Bathrooms Now Required For Single-Aisle Planes

These kinds of bathrooms have been provided on the two-aisle aircraft for years, but up until now, there has been no requirement for them to be provided on single-aisle planes.

The U.S. Department of Transportation issued an official rule under the Air Carrier Access Act.

The new regulation will require new single-aisle aircraft bathrooms with a minimum of 125 seats to have larger, wheelchair accessible bathrooms with features such as grab bars and accessible faucets, controls, call buttons and door locks.

These kinds of bathrooms have been provided on the two-aisle aircraft for years, but up until now, there has been no requirement for them to be provided on single-aisle planes, which are commonly used for longer flights.

The new rule aims to assist passengers with disabilities to travel easier and safer.
