U.S. To Send Additional Warships And Marines To The Middle East

The deployment will establish better flexibility and maritime capability in the region in an attempt to increase security as Iranian forces attempt to seize commercial ships in the area.

The U.S. announced plans to send additional warships and thousands of Marines to the Middle East.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approved the deployment of the USS Bataan amphibious readiness group and the 26th Marine expeditional unit to the Gulf Region. The readiness group is made up of three ships, including the Bataan, an amphibious assault ship. An expeditonal unit on average consist of around 2,500 Marines.
