Boater Education Course Now Required For Anyone 16 Or Younger

The new requirement will go into effect on August 18th and anyone who violates the law can be fined up to $300 and a minimum of $50.

A new boater education requirement has been approved in South Carolina.

Now, anyone born after July 7th of 2007, is required to pass an approved boater course before they’re allowed to operate a boat, personal watercraft, or a specialty-propelled craft with 10 horse-power or more, without supervision.

The few exceptions to the course include anyone who is not a resident and has a boater education certificate from another state, a U.S. Coast Guard license, or a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).

The new requirement will go into effect on August 18th and anyone who violates the law can be fined up to $300 and a minimum of $50.
