Boat Accident Results In The Death Of One Child

A boat accident occurred on the Intracoastal Waterway resulting in the death of a child.
The accident happened a little after noon near Waterway Avenue in Little River.
11-year-old Olivia Knighton from Massachusetts, was among nine people who were thrown overboard when their 23-foot boat was struck by a large wake from another boat traveling on the waterway.
Olivia was struck by the propeller after being thrown off the boat. She was transported to a hospital where she later died. There were 12 people aboard the boat as well but no other injuries were reported.
Details are limited at this time as the S.C. Department of Natural Resources is investigating the accident. The agency is currently attempting to gather additional information including witness statements, examining the boat, and more to get a clear idea of what happened.
