Trump Receives Target Letter In Connection To 2020 Election Probe

The letter cites three statutes that he could be charged with including deprivation of rights, conspiracy to commit an offense against or defraud the United States, and tampering with a witness.

Former President Donald Trump has received a target letter regarding the criminal investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The letter means that prosecutors have enough evidence to possibly indict Trump in connection to the January 6th attack on the Capitol. The letter cites three statutes that he could be charged with including deprivation of rights, conspiracy to commit an offense against or defraud the United States, and tampering with a witness.

The 2024 Republican presidential candidate has a few days to testify before the grand jury to present any information he wants without knowing what the Justice Department has on him. Trump’s legal team has not formally responded to the invitation to testify, but he is expected to decline.
