GOP Candidates Test Unusual Ways To Gain Campaign Funds

Some of the 2024 Republican presidential candidates are coming up with unusual ways to claim their place on the debate stage.

To qualify for the debate in Milwaukee, candidates must meet both polling thresholds and a fundraising floor, meaning they must have at least 40 thousand unique donors, including at least 200 contributions from 20 states. The demand for cash has brought on different strategies.

Doug Burgum is offering $20 gift cards to people who donate at least $1 to his campaign. Vivek Ramaswamy has promised grassroots fundraisers a 10% cut of the money they bring into his campaign. Perry Johnson is offering a copy of his book ‘Two Cents to Save America’ for a $1 donation.

Other candidates are testing other ways to meet the quota by funding social media ads with fundraising appeals.

Several of these actions have raised concerns over the legality of their attempt to raise money.

The debate will take place on August 23rd.
