The DOJ Is Targeting A Nationwide Healthcare Fraud Scheme

The two-week national law enforcement effort resulted in both federal and state level charges against 78 defendants.

On Wednesday, the Justice Department announced a broad enforcement effort aimed at health care, telemedicine, and illegal prescription schemes totaling $2.5 billion in alleged fraud.

The two-week national law enforcement effort resulted in both federal and state level charges against 78 defendants including 24 doctors, nurses, or other licensed medical professionals.

As part of the enforcement action officials issued 90 Medicare and Medicaid revocations and billing suspensions, as well as seized or restrained millions of dollars in cash, vehicles, and real estate.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said that the enforcement represents the DOJ’s intensified efforts to combat fraud and prosecute the individuals who profit from it.
