Costco Cracks Down On Membership Sharing
At self check-out registers, customers will now be asked to show their membership card.
First Netflix, now another company is cracking down on membership sharing.
Costco requires shoppers to pay for membership, and has seen an abundance of non-members using memberships that do not belong to them.
A spokesperson for the wholesale store shared that Costco is able to keep their prices as low as possible because of their membership fees that assist in their operational expenses and when non-members shop at their stores, it overall hurts the business.
The company recently expanded its self-check out and noticed non-members were taking advantage. At self check-out registers, customers will now be asked to show their membership card.
The company added that this does not change their membership guidelines as it has never been transferable and they have always asked customers to present their cards at checkout.
