McMaster Vetoes $1.5M Of $13B S.C. Budget

The rest of the remaining budget that was approved is set to start on July first.

On Tuesday, Governor McMaster vetoed only $1.5 million out of South Carolina’s $13 billion budget for the next fiscal year.

The 11 vetoes mostly involve spending requested by individual lawmakers that the governor said either didn’t provide enough information or didn’t go through the proper channels.

McMaster cut out $275 thousand aimed for a group called the Mental Wealth Alliance stating the cause for funds were not an appropriate use of state funds.

The governor also cut $250 thousand for a local cable channel that would broadcast several university sports as well as high school games in several counties backing the veto by advising the organizers of the channel to contact South Carolina Education Television for assistance.

There were also vetoes for a duplicated proposal and more. The rest of the remaining budget that was approved is set to start on July first.
