Death Investigation Opened After Woman Suffered Fatal Gunshot Wound

An investigation is currently underway, but deputies determined there is no threat to the public.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into a shooting that left one person dead.

Deputies responded to a call of an accidental shooting around midnight on Sunday on Coquina Avenue in Murrells inlet.

Upon arrival, officers found a 27-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she died nearly two hours later.

The coroners office has not yet identified the victim and no charges have been announced at this time.
