President Biden Vetoed Bill Aimed At Student Loans

If the House and Senate do not get enough votes to override a presidential veto, the measure will be squashed all together.

President Biden vetoed a bill that would have repealed months of student loan payment pause and officially banned his student loan forgiveness program.

The ‘House Joint Resolution 45’ passed the House last month and the Senate last week, with support from both Democrats and Republicans.

If Biden had not vetoed the legislation, borrower advocates worried that 40 million student loan borrowers could have faced back-pay for those paused payments and gained new interest charges added to their debt.

If the House and Senate do not get enough votes to override a presidential veto, the measure will be squashed all together.

Meanwhile, the student loan forgiveness program is still in an on-going debate in the Supreme Court who is set to decide on its legality by the end of this month or early July.
