Amazon To Pay Millions In Data Collecting Lawsuits
Amazon has denied violating the law but settled to pay over $30 million to put the legal challenges behind them.
On Wednesday, Amazon agreed to pay millions to settle two federal lawsuits.
The twin settlements with the Federal Trade Commission highlight claims that Amazon retained Ring Videos and Alexa voice recordings, along with gathering location information, for years.
Some of the data was collected without consent and despite requests by consumers for the information to be deleted.
The FTC alleged that Amazon data policies were lenient which means information could often be accessed by unauthorized parties.
