U.S. Border Patrol Chief Announced Retirement At The End Of June

Raul Ortiz first became chief in August of 2021 and led the agency through significant challenges in recent years, including the COVID pandemic and recent expiration of Title 42.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz announced plans to retire at the end of June.

Ortiz wrote a letter to Border Patrol employees that said after a 32-year career spanning multiple Sectors, HQ tours, and overseas assignments, he decided to retire from federal service on June 30th.

Ortiz first became chief in August of 2021 and led the agency through significant challenges in recent years, including the COVID pandemic and recent expiration of Title 42.

It is not immediately clear who will be replacing him.
