FTC Opens Investigation Into Baby Formula Shortage In The U.S.

The FTC is probing whether baby formula makers conspired in bidding on state contracts.

The Federal Trade Commission has launched an investigation into the shortages of baby formula in the U.S..

The prolonged shortage has left store shelves empty of the essential product for several months and the FTC is probing whether baby formula makers conspired in bidding on state contracts.

The agency is looking into Abbott Laboratories and other formula manufacturers while investigating whether company coordination affected sales more broadly outside of the ‘Women, Infants and Children’ formula-supply program.

Abbott shared that it is unaware of any factual basis to support the ‘WIC-related’ investigation, but they will cooperate with FTC’s investigation.
