TikTok Filed A Lawsuit Against Montana For Banning The App
The company is seeking for the court to permanently invalidate Montana from enforcing the ban.
The state of Montana became the first in the U.S. to ban TikTok.
Governor Greg Gianforte signed a bill that would impose a fine of $10 thousand per day on TikTok or app stores for making the app available to personal devices in the state starting on January 1st of next year.
On Monday, the short video platform filed a lawsuit against the state alleging that the ban violates the U.S. Constitution, including the first amendment, as well as other federal laws.
The new Montana law stems from growing criticism of TikTok over its ties to China through its parent company ByteDance.
There is fear that the Chinese government could potential access U.S. data via TikTok for spying purposes, though there has yet to be any proven evidence submitted.
In the lawsuit TikTok once again claimed the concerns are ‘unfounded’.
