How to Cancel Plans and Keep Your Friends
Too pooped to party? Research suggests honesty is the best policy when cancelling plans.
Research into how people feel when you cancel plans with them is out. It points to an age-old proverb on how you should do it. We’ve all been there, you have plans with a friend but you’re exhausted and would prefer to curl up on the couch. So how do you handle it? New research from Michigan State University suggests that if you want to stay in good standing with friends, honesty is the best policy. The study reports 80% say cancelling plans would not affect their friendship, but they’d be peeved if the reason was a lie. In general people just want advanced notice and a simple text or call will do.
