Governor McMaster Makes Comment Stirring Up Backlash
Alongside calling for an apology and retraction of his statement, Democrats are also calling for the S.C. Law Enforcement Division to open an investigation into McMaster.
Governor McMaster is facing backlash from Democrats across S.C. after a comment he made at the S.C. Republican Convention.
Republicans across the Palmetto State gathered in Lexington County at the convention to elect a party chairperson.
Before Drew McKissick was re-elected for the fourth time, McMaster addressed the crowd and said, “I look forward to the day that Democrats are so rare, we have to hunt them with dogs.”
A spokesperson from the governor’s office said that he has been making this joke at GOP conventions for years and S.C. residents have understood that it is only a joke.
However, S.C. Democrats share that it is not a joke when someone is supposed to be leading the whole state consisting of all parties including theirs as well as Independents.
Alongside calling for an apology and retraction of his statement, Democrats are also calling for the S.C. Law Enforcement Division to open an investigation into McMaster.
